HUNTINGTON, Ind. - Nothing seemed to go right for the Forester baseball team Monday night as they suffered a pair of shutouts, 2-0, 2-0, to MCC foe Bethel College who owned the season series 3-1.
With these losses, HU drops to 17-21 overall, 12-12 in the MCC.
Huntington had twice as many errors as hits in the opener to make for a frustrating outing. Jordan Klopfenstein picked up HU’s only two hits of the game while the Foresters committed four miscues to which the Pilots took full advantage as both runs were of the unearned variety. The Pilots scored once in the second and added an insurance run in the fourth to seal the win.
Mitch Bowers suffered his fourth loss of the season. He gave up nine hits, no earned runs, one walk while striking out two in seven innings of work.
Huntington’s offensive woes continued in the nightcap as the Foresters managed only three hits. Tyler Palmer was charged with the loss after giving up two runs, one earned, on four hits and two walks in five innings on the mound.
The Pilots did all their damage in the second as they collected two hits and took advantage of a misplayed ground to plate both runs which proved to be more than enough for the win.
Brandon Van Matre, Jamon Hammel and Marc Bowers each pounded out a hit in the losing effort. The Foresters left six runners stranded as they came up empty in their quest to find home.
"We just got beat in every way possible,” noted Coach Frame. “We need to understand where we are in our season and what we have to do to get into the conference tournament. This team needs to start playing with a sense of urgency."
The Foresters will look to get back on track today as they host Goshen College at 5:30 p.m.
