
HUNTINGTON, Ind. - It’s a fitting ending to a remarkable athletic career as the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced yesterday that Huntington University senior shortstop Eric Schultz was selected as an Honorable Mention All-America pick.
In his final campaign as a Forester, the Palo, Iowa native ranked seventh in the nation in hitting with his .440 batting average. He scored 46 times, drove in 43 runs and finished the season with a .526 on-base percentage, collecting 70 hits while working 28 walks against 12 strikeouts.
Schultz graduates from Huntington as one of the most decorated players in program history. His name appears in the HU record books 11 times. He holds several single season records including most games (53), hits by pitch (13), most runs (65) and most walks (37).
Even more impressive are Schultz’s career hitting stats which lands him eight different top spots. He holds the career record for most games (198), most at bats (652), most hits (264), most singles (190), most runs (203), most walks (120) and stolen bases (71).
Over the last four years, the three-time All-Conference honoree started in all but one of the Foresters’ 198 games. He helped guide the program to 105 wins, two MCC tournament titles and two NAIA National Championship appearances.
