Playing against each other for the first time, it was the Forester men's basketball
team (6-0) who came out ahead with a convincing 109-58 win over the Titans of Ohio State University Newark 109-58.
The Titans held a nine-second lead to start the game but the Foresters quickly made it clear who held the upper hand. HU took the lead 30 seconds later and never looked back. Tyler Shively knocked down three treys in the first twenty minutes to finish with 14 points in the first period. As a team the Foresters went 15-for-30 from the field and shot 72.2 percent (13-for-18) from the line to take a 47-26 lead into the locker room.
The second half was much like the first half but this time it was Kellen Zawadzki who fueled the Foresters. He drained three threes in the first two minutes of the second half to give HU their largest lead of the game, 60-30. The Titans had no answer as the Foresters methodically broke down Ohio State's defense to score 62 points in the half for the easy win. For the game, Huntington connected on 55.1 percent (38-for-69) of their field goals and outrebounded the Titans 48-28.
Zawadzki led all scorers with 24 points. Shively added 19 points and dished out a game-high eight assists while Seth Kisler chipped in 12 points. Bobby Jolliff finished with a double double of ten points and a game-high ten boards. Derek Jordan led the Titans with 14 points.
Huntington hits the road this weekend for the Davenport University tournament. They play IU East on Friday at 8:00 p.m.
