Huntington, Ind.—The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of Jan. 8-14. Women’s track freshman Bethany McGraw and men’s basketball senior Jared Yoder earned the honor for their outstanding play during the week’s competitions.
Bethany McGraw, an exercise science major from Perrysburg, Ohio (Toledo Christian High School), hit the ground running in her debut as a member of Huntington women's track team. Her four first place finishes in Huntington’s Frozen Forest Invitational helped lead the Forester women to victory. McGraw qualified for the NAIA indoor national track meet with her winning effort of 17-11 in the long jump. She also won the 55-meter dash in 7.50, the 300-meter dash in 45.82 and the triple jump with a leap of 32-10. The Foresters return to action on Jan. 26-27 when they travel to Ohio to compete in the University of Findlay Invitational.
Jared Yoder, an exercise science major from Shipshewana, Ind. (Westview High School), had outstanding performances in the Foresters’ two wins during the week. The point guard scored eight points and dished out nine assists with just one turnover in Huntington’s 85-71 win over No. 9-ranked Indiana Wesleyan, and in Huntington’s 77-74 victory over Goshen, he scored 15 points and handed out eight assists with only one turnover. Yoder leads the Mid-Central Conference with his 6.6 assists per game. The No. 5-ranked Foresters head to Grace College for their next contest on Jan. 16 at 7 p.m.
