Huntington, Ind.—The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of Sept. 11-17. Women’s tennis freshman Raelyn Althoff and men’s soccer junior Chavis Williams earned the honors for their outstanding efforts during the week’s competitions.
Raelyn Althoff, a business management major from Stevensville, Mich. (Lakeshore High School), racked up four wins to help lead Huntington to a 2-0 week on the tennis courts. On Thursday, Althoff defeated Taylor’s Kristine Bolinger 6-4, 6-4 at #2 singles and teamed with Stephanie Strong to win 9-8 at #1 doubles. In Saturday’s match with St. Francis, she downed Krista Van Lue 6-4, 6-3 in singles and got the 8-2 win with Strong in doubles. Huntington is currently 4-2 on the season and will next travel to Fort Wayne’s Swinney Park to take on Indiana Tech on Sept. 19 at 3 p.m.
Chavis Williams, a business management major from Trinidad and Tobago, turned in a solid performance for the Forester soccer squad on the weekend. Williams was an anchor for Huntington’s defense with his consistent play and his intensity on the field. Huntington (3-4-1) will return to action on Sept. 23 at 2:30 p.m. when they host Indiana Wesleyan University in their first conference match of the season.
