Fort Wayne, Ind. - Up against the defending WHAC champions, the HU men’s soccer team (0-3) lost 2-1 to the Saints of Aquinas College on Saturday afternoon at the University of Saint Francis Invitational.
The Foresters showed great composure the first 25 minutes of the contest before Aquinas’ Jonathan Spencer finally cracked HU’s defense and found the back of the net at the 30 minute mark to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. Eleven minutes into the second stanza Nick Harmsen lofted a corner kick toward goal and Adam Christner headed it home to knot things up at 1-1 but the Saints answered in the 79th minute with their second goal of the game which proved to be enough to clinch the win.
HU generated 12 shots to Aquinas’ 20. HU keeper Drew Mattingly finished with eight saves.
The Foresters are back in action on Wednesday when the host Bluffton University at 4:00 p.m.
