MISHAWAKA, Ind. - The Bethel College Pilots scored within the first two minutes and never looked back in a 5-1 debacle of the Forester men’s soccer team Wednesday evening.

A stunned Huntington squad never quite recovered from the Pilots’ early score as they struggled to match Bethel’s aggressive play.

The Pilots generated nine shots in the first period to HU’s two. It looked like the Foresters would head into break having held their conference nemesis to a single goal but with eight ticks on the clock, the Pilots found back netting to push their lead to 2-0.

Bethel took full advantage of a deflated HU squad to score three more times in the final 45 minutes to cruise to the lopsided win.

The Foresters’ lone highlight came in the 59th minute when Tyson Bradley-Kalischuk found Jordan Jatzek who scored on a header to pull HU within 3-1.

“We were just outplayed tonight,” said Coach Lawson. “Bethel is a good team. We gave them too much space and played on our heels the whole night.

“It’s a disappointing loss but I know this team has the fight to bounce back. We’ll see what we’re made of as we have two days to prepare for another tough opponent in Taylor University.”

The Pilots held a 19-5 shot advantage. Drew Mattingly handled the majority of goalie duty to finish with four saves.

The Foresters (7-6-2, 2-4) host Taylor University at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Fort Wayne Sport Club.
