Huntington, Ind.—The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athletes of the Week for April 30 through May 6. Women’s softball freshman Brittney Bateman and men’s track junior Joel Sanders earned the honor for their outstanding efforts during the week’s competition.
Brittney Bateman, a secondary math education major from Lagrange, Ind. (Lakeland High School), led the Foresters with a .444 batting average in Huntington’s three games during the Mid-Central Conference tournament. Bateman also stole four bases, drove in two runs and scored a run. Bateman was an Honorable Mention MCC All-Conference selection as well.
Joel Sanders, an elementary education major from Fort Wayne, Ind. (Snider High School), won the 800 meter run at the Butler Twilight track meet and broke his own school record with a time of 1:52.29. His previous best was 1:52.78 set on May 7, 2005. His new time also improved his seeding in the 800 meter run for the NAIA National Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 24-27 in Fresno, California.
