HUNTINGTON, Ind. – Huntington University softball coach Doug Gower announced the latest addition to his 2012-13 roster with the signing of Garrett High School standout shortstop Katie DePew.
DePew led her team at the plate by hitting .380 on the season while hammering out 39 hits, scoring 27 runs and driving in 14 runs. In the last two season combined, she struck out only three times and strung together 94 plate appearances without a K.
She’s been an All-Conference and KPC Media Group All-Area selection the last three seasons and helped guide the Railroaders to two conference titles and a regional championship. Her name will go down in the Garrett record books for most games played with 112.
DePew has also left her mark on the Railroaders’ volleyball and basketball programs where she has been an All-Conference pick in both sports. She is Garrett’s all-time leader in assists and digs.
“She’s an extremely competitive girl, she’s a multi-sport athlete and she’s very aggressive,” said Coach Gower. “She comes from a great program. She’s going to bring a winning attitude and work ethic to our program, and I’m looking forward to it.”
The Garrett native plans to major in education. She is the daughter of Chris and Christina DePew.
