Knights take two from the Foresters

After knocking off Bethel from atop the MCC earlier in the week, the Forester softball team (12-14, 6-4) were hoping to do the same to Marian but some costly base-running and the Knights' hot bats disrupted their plans as HU finished the night with two losses, 3-2 and 11-5.

Marian jumped on the board early with a run in the top of the first but the Foresters tied it up in the third on Aubrey Garner's RBI-single. HU then scored the go ahead run in the fifth when Dilling scored on Garner's sacrifice fly to make it 2-1 but the Knights weren't ready to call it quits. They hammered out a single and two doubles to plate two runs in the top of the seventh to take the 3-2 lead. The Foresters came up empty in their last at-bats to give Marian the hard fought win.

Molly Long took the loss for HU giving up three runs, one earned, on six hits and no walks while striking out five. Garner paced the Foresters with a hit and two RBI.

In game two, the Knights pounded out 14 hits compared to the Foresters eight. They wasted no time getting started as they plated a run in the first and then five more in the second to jump out to a 6-0 lead. The Foresters got two back in the bottom of their frame but the Knights exploded for four more runs in the fourth to take the sizable 10-2 advantage. The Foresters rallied in the fourth to score three runs but it wouldn't be enough as the Knights got one back in the seventh as they cruised to the 11-5 win.

Stacie Rawnsley took the loss on the mound. She gave up seven runs, six earned, on nine hits while striking out two. Garner and Melissa Werling each had two hits to pace HU at the plate.
