McDougle named Forester Athlete of the Week

HUNTINGTON, Ind. - The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athlete of the Week for the week of April 30-May 6, 2012. Softball sophomore Marcie McDougle earned the honor for her outstanding efforts during the week’s competitions.

McDougle, a psychology major from Paulding, Ohio (Wayne Trace High School), joined an elite group of pitchers on Saturday when she threw a perfect game against the University of St. Francis (Ill.). She held the Saints hitless and issued no walks to lead the Foresters to a 1-0 win in game two of the doubleheader.

McDougle allowed only one ball to leave the infield, a fly out to center field in the sixth inning. Her other 20 putouts came by way of infield popups (7), groundouts (7) and strikeouts (6) as no Saint player reach first base over the course of the seven-inning game.

The right-handed hurler earned four complete-game victories on the mound last week to improve to 10-2 on the season. For the week she posted a 1.75 ERA and gave up 1.8 earned runs per outing while striking out just over five batters per game.

Huntington (28-16) heads into the MCC Tournament slated for May 2-3 at Indiana Wesleyan University as the No. 3 seed. They will take on 6th-seeded Spring Arbor University at noon on Wednesday.
The Huntington University Foresters compete in 14 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 53 NAIA All-America honors and 187 All-America Scholar Athlete honors. Huntington University is a comprehensive Christian college of the liberal arts offering graduate and undergraduate programs in more than 70 academic concentrations.
