Huntington, Ind.—The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of April 9-15. Women’s softball sophomore Lauren Ward and men’s track sophomore Dan Lindbloom earned the honor for their outstanding efforts during the week’s competition.
Lauren Ward, an accounting major from Butler, Ind. (Eastside High School), helped lead the Foresters to a 4-0 week with two impressive wins on the mound. In Huntington’s 8-0 win over Grace College, Ward (6-4) shut out the Lancers on three hits and five walks while striking out seven. She followed that up with a perfect game in the Foresters’ 9-0 victory over Rochester College. She allowed no hits or walks and struck out six. Ward also played a big role in Huntington’s two other wins during the week. She went 4-6 at the plate, including her first homerun of the season, scored two runs and drove in five in the two games. The Foresters (12-12, 4-3) return to action on April 17 when they host Spring Arbor University at 3 p.m.
Dan Lindbloom, an exercise science major from Evergreen Park, Ill. (Chicago Christian High School), turned in an outstanding individual performance at the Little State Championship. He broke the six-year old school record in the 3000 meter steeplechase by more than three seconds with his time of 9:25.23, which automatically qualified him for the NAIA Track and Field National Championships which will be held in Fresno, Calif., May 24-26. Huntington will next compete at Wilmington College in Ohio on April 21 at 11 a.m.
