Huntington, Ind.— The Huntington College Athletics Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of January 31-February 6, 2005. Women’s track sophomore Brittany Fillman and men’s basketball sophomore Alex Kock earned the honors for their outstanding efforts during the week’s competitions.
Brittany Fillman
Brittany Fillman, an English education major from Markle, Ind. (Norwell High School), put in an outstanding personal performance at the DePauw University Indoor Track and Field Invitational. Fillman topped the list of highlights from the women’s action when she met qualification standards for the NAIA Indoor National Track and Field Championships in the 600 meters. To qualify in the 600, runners must post a time of at least a 1 minute, 41.98 seconds. Fillman finished third in the event with a qualifying time of 1:39.75. At DePauw, Fillman also anchored the Foresters’ fourth-place 4x400 relay. The Foresters return to action on Saturday, February 12, when they travel to Taylor University at 2:00 p.m.
Alex Kock
Alex Kock, a physical education and health major from Auburn, Ind. (DeKalb High School), averaged 19 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in the Foresters two wins during the week. In Tuesday’s 77-72 win over Grace College, Kock had 18 points, six rebounds, and two assists and in Saturday’s 75-69 win over Marian College, he dropped in a game-high 20 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out five assists. Kock went 13-25 from the floor for the week and a perfect 11-11 from the free throw line. Huntington (18-8, 10-3) returns to action on Tuesday, February 8, when they travel to Goshen College to take on the Maple Leafs at 7:00 p.m.
The Huntington College Foresters compete in 14 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past eight years, Huntington has produced 50 NAIA All-American honors and 99 All-American Scholar Athlete honors.
