MARION, Ind. - The Foresters competed in the 107th annual Little State Championships held at Indiana Wesleyan University on Friday and Saturday where the women finished ninth while the men came in tenth.
Gretchen Spahr brought home HU’s highest finish by placing second in the 5,000 meter run in 18:28.29. Racquel Service finished fourth and ran a personal best in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.35. Cendall Ogle crossed the line fourth in the 800 meter run in 2:21.56.
Kelsey Green registered a fifth place finish in discus with her toss of 132-06. Krystal McHenry finished ninth and made HU history in the 10,000 meter run. She ran a 41:15.04 to take over the sixth spot in the record books. Teammate Miranda Boyts wasn’t far behind as she ran a PR 42:24.81 good for eleventh place.
The University of Indianapolis captured the women’s title with 194.6 points followed by Indiana Wesleyan (134), Bethel (104), St. Joseph's (98.50), Taylor (97), Vincennes (86), Grace (30), Marian (28), HU (22), Saint Francis (8.50), Indiana East (4) and Goshen (.33).
Todd Fielder turned in the men’s top finish by placing second in javelin with a throw of 164-10. He also finished fifth in triple jump with a leap of 43-06.50. The Foresters got eighth place finishes from Brian Menzie (1500 meter run, 4:08.42) and Lance Wood (10,000 meter run, 33:23.63). Alec Rosario ran to a ninth place finish in the 3000 meter steeplechase in 10:14.94. Nathan Rupp clocked in at 33:42.29 in the 10,000 meter run for the tenth spot and Antonio Castillo finished eleventh in the 800 meter run in 1:58.23.
The University of Indianapolis won the men’s title with 169 points followed by Indiana Wesleyan (163), Vincennes (115), St. Joseph's (101), Bethel (99), Taylor (49), Marian (43), Grace (22), Indiana East (16), HU (14), Goshen (12) and Saint Francis (5).
Next up for HU is a road trip to Wilmington College on Saturday, April 21.
