ANGOLA, Ind. - The HU track and field teams brought home seven top finishes from the Trine University Invitational over the weekend. The men finished second while the women took fourth.
Capturing HU’s first top finish of the day for the men was Sean Sewell who ran a 23.41 in the 200 meter dash. Not far behind was teammate Scott Skiles who ran to a third place finish in 23.87. Skiles also sprinted to fourth place in the 60 meter dash with his time of 7.40.
Antonio Castillo ran a 2:51.23 to earn top honors in the 1000 meter run. Taking first place in the 3000 meter run with a winning time of 9:12.97 was Brian Menzie. HU’s final first place finish came from Logan Knox in the weight throw. He threw a career best 43-09.00. He also turned in a fourth place finish in the shot put with a throw of 39-05.75.
Picking up a second place finish was Matt Bittner in the 600 meter run (1:31.71), Joseph Herber in the mile (4:28.75), Lance Wood in the 3000 meter run (9:14.95) and Grant Fitzgerald in the triple jump (40-00).
Other top five finishes for the Foresters included Volodymy Budnichenko in the 400 meter dash (5th, 54.99), Seth Murphy in the 1000 meter run (3rd, 2:59.18), Nathan Rupp in the 5000 meter run (3rd, 16:39.26), Lukas Knox in the weight throw (4th, 40-02.75) and Bryan Myers in the weight throw (5th, 39-03.75).
Trine captured the men’s title with 155 points followed by HU (138), Grace (102), Saint Francis (53), Olivet (51), Judson (40), Goshen (25), UNAT – Goshen (8) and Calumet - St. Joseph (6).
Racquel Service paced the women with two first place finishes in the 60 meter dash (8.23) and 200 meter dash (27.37). Right behind her in the 60 meter dash was Rachel Bayon who took second in 8.30. Cendall Ogle ran to a first place finish in the 800 meter run with a time 2:26.90. HU had two runners finish in the top four of the mile in Gretchen Spahr (2nd, 5:32.66) and Krystal McHenry (4th, 5:42.92). Other top five finishes included Erin Rockey in the 1000 meter run (4th, 3:13.66) and Natalie Spahr (4th, 11:41.46).
Spring Arbor finished first for the women with 173 points followed by Judson (150), Trine (74.5), HU (71), Grace (67), Olivet (45), Saint Francis (44.5) and Goshen (2).
The Foresters are back in action this Saturday when they compete in the Taylor University Invitational.
