Huntington, Ind.—The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of April 16-22. Women’s track senior Emily Holliday and men’s tennis junior Mitchell McDonald earned the honor for their outstanding efforts during the week’s competition.
Emily Holliday, a math education major from Van Wert, Ohio (Van Wert High School), turned in an outstanding individual performance at the Wilmington College Track Invitational. She met NAIA provisional qualification standards to compete at the NAIA Outdoor Track National Championships with her winning time of 11:46.92 in the 3000 meter steeplechase. She also added a second place finish in the 5000 meter run with a time of 19:30.97. The Foresters will next compete at the Mid-Central Conference Championships at Indiana Wesleyan University on April 27-28.
Mitchell McDonald, an accounting major from Shipshewana, Ind. (Westview High School), moved his win streak in singles’ play to six in a row with two more wins this past week. Against Taylor, he downed Greg Brandt 7-6, 6-1, and at Marian, he knocked off Jesse Miller 6-4, 6-1. In the Foresters’ last six matches, McDonald also has posted a 5-1 record in doubles’ play. Huntington concluded its season with an overall record of 8-12.
