Huntington, Ind.—The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of Sept. 18-24. Women’s volleyball senior Renee Biberstine and men’s tennis junior Mitchell McDonald earned the honors for their outstanding efforts during the week’s competitions.
Renee Biberstine, an elementary education major from Berne, Ind. (Adams Central High School), helped lead the Foresters to a first place tie at the University of Michigan Dearborn Tournament on the weekend. In three of Huntington’s four matches, she led the team in kills and she was selected as a member of the all-tournament team. Biberstine currently leads the team with 142 kills on the season and is second in digs at 4.6 per game. The Foresters are 13-5 on the season and next host Goshen College on Sept. 27 at 7 p.m.
Mitchell McDonald, an accounting major from Shipshewana, Ind. (Westview High School), went undefeated on the week to help lead the Foresters to a 2-0 record. Against Indiana Tech, he teamed with Daron Short for the 8-1 win at #2 doubles and then came from behind to win 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 at #2 singles. Against Manchester, McDonald and Short again won 8-1 at #2 doubles, and then he followed that up with an easy 6-0, 6-1 win at #2 singles. Huntington (2-4) will return to action on Sept. 26 at 4 p.m. when they host Goshen College.
