Cougars complete sweep over HU volleyball

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - In a Crossroads brawl for a spot in postseason play, the University of Saint Francis got the best of the HU volleyball team Wednesday night to complete the two –game sweep over the Foresters, 25-16, 25-15, 18-25, 25-23. Huntington lost to the Cougars in four back on September 5.

With this loss, the Foresters drop to 4-16 overall, 2-9 in league play. With seven matches remaining, HU is currently in ninth place in league standing but must climb to the eighth spot in order to advance to the Crossroads League Tournament.

The Cougars had their way in the first two sets before Huntington finally regrouped to capture the third set. Up 23-21 in the fourth set, it looked like Huntington was on its way to a fifth set rubber match but Saint Francis had other plans as they reeled off four consecutive points to squelch any hope of a heroic Forester comeback.

Brittany Rooze paced HU’s attack with 14 kills and a .375 hitting percentage while Heather Medich added nine kills. Codie Morey dished out 36 assists. Katie Bowers tallied 30 digs and two serving aces in the losing effort.

The Foresters are back in action on Friday when they host Goshen College at 7:00 p.m.
The Huntington University Foresters compete in 16 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 46 NAIA All-America honors and 202 All-America Scholar Athlete honors.
