Settle takes over volleyball reigns

/uploadedImages/News/News_Release_Images/Athletics/Amy Settle.jpgHUNTINGTON, Ind. - The Huntington University Athletic Department has announced the hiring of Amy Settle as the new head coach for the volleyball program.

After taking an extended hiatus to start her family, Coach Settle is stepping back into the world of coaching and brings with her a wealth of experience and success at varying levels.

Her most recent experience was a three-year stint at Cornerstone University where she amassed a 96-31 record and led her squad to three consecutive conference titles and three consecutive appearances in the NAIA regional finals. She also earned NAIA Region 8 Coach of the Year honors after her first season with the Golden Eagles.

Prior to coaching at Cornerstone, Settle spent a year and a half as an assistant at Morehead State University under former Huntington College Coach Mike Swan. Early in her career she also logged five years of coaching experience at the high school and club level.

“We’re excited to have Amy join our coaching staff,” says Athletic Director Lori Culler. “She has proven herself to be a very successful coach at a variety of levels including the collegiate level. As an alumnae of our volleyball program, she brings a wealth of experience and knowledge of the what it means to compete in the NAIA and the Mid-Central Conference. We’re looking forward to seeing where Amy will take the program and we’re pleased to have her and her family back involved in the HU community.”

The Ossian, Ind. native is looking forward to this opportunity. “As an alumnus of the University and volleyball program, I am pleased to return to HU,” commented Coach Settle.

“I look forward to building upon the foundation we have of outstanding student-athletes and creating a context through which the team can find joy in using their God-given talents and pursue excellence wholeheartedly. We have a great group of young talented players who are poised to take this program to the next level.”

Settle graduated Summa Cum Laude from Huntington with a BS in Elementary Education in 1993. As the Foresters’ four-year starting setter, she helped guide her team to four conference titles and racked up 118 wins against 41 losses. The three-time MCC All-Conference player also experienced similar success in the classroom where she was recognized as a two-time NAIA Scholar-Athlete and was twice named to the MCC Academic All-Conference Team.

Coach Settle earned her MA in Education from Morehead State University in 1999. She is currently a second grade teacher for Fort Wayne Community Schools. She and her husband, Mark (HU Class of 1993) along with their three children Shelby, Jack and Becky reside in Ossian, Ind. 
The Huntington University Foresters compete in 14 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 53 NAIA All-America honors and 187 All-America Scholar Athlete honors.
