Huntington, Ind.—The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of Sept. 25-Oct. 1. Women’s volleyball junior Stephanie Stearns and men’s golf sophomore Spencer Batt earned the honors for their outstanding efforts during the week’s competitions.
Stephanie Stearns, an accounting major from New Castle, Ind. (New Castle Chrysler High School), helped lead Huntington to a 4-1 week with her play as the Foresters’ libero. She led the team in digs in each of Huntington’s five volleyball matches averaging 7.8 per game. Her play at the Taylor University Tournament over the weekend led to her selection to the all-tournament team. Stearns also leads the team with her 6.8 digs per game. Huntington (17-6) will next host Taylor University-Fort Wayne on Oct. 6 at 7 p.m.
Spencer Batt, a business major from New Haven, Ind. (New Haven High School), led the Forester golf team to its first win of the season. He shot a season-best three under 69 at LaFontaine Golf Club to help Huntington win its own invitational. Through seven matches this fall, Batt has posted a team-leading 77.3 stroke average. The Foresters conclude their fall season with the two-day Mid-Central Conference Tournament on Oct. 2-3 at Blackthorn Golf Club in South Bend, Ind.
