HUNTINGTON, Ind. - Head coach Lori Culler and the Huntington University women’s basketball program has announced their first signing for 2012-13 season in Illiana Christian High School senior Jaclene Bonnema.
With her final season of high school basketball winding down, the 6’2 center is currently averaging 11.7 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per outing. She has racked up numerous awards over the years which include being named Northwest Indiana Times All-Area Honorable Mention as a sophomore.
As a junior, she received All-Area Second Team honors from Northwest Indiana Times in addition to being named to the Metro Suburban All-Conference Team and the Ladycat Fall Classic All-Tournament Team.
With postseason awards still pending, Bonnema was a Northwest Indiana Times Pre-Season All-Area Team pick and has been named to two All-Tournament teams this season.
"We’re excited that Jaclene has chosen to continue her basketball career at HU. Not only does she add some needed size to our roster, she also brings a lot of potential,” commented Coach Culler. “She’s a diamond in the rough and her best basketball is ahead of her. Her intelligence and strong desire to succeed both in the classroom and on the court will serve her well as she makes the transition to the college game. We’re looking forward to watching her career unfold.”
Jaclene, the daughter of John and Eileen Bonnema of Dyer, Indiana, has been on high honor roll throughout her prep career and is a member of the National Honor Society.
