In the first game of a double-header, the Foresters came away with a 68-57 victory over the Saints of Siena Heights.
It took four minutes for the Foresters to take a 7-6 lead that they would never give up. Jenna Donaldson’s driving lay-up at the 15:29 mark ignited an 11-1 run that put HU up by 11 with eight minutes left in the half. The Foresters maintained this lead to finish the half 37-26. Donaldson and Sarah Miller handled a lion's share of the scoring in the first half combining for 23 of the 37 Forester points.
The second half started slow for the Foresters but a put back by Kelsey Green at the 15:20 mark led to another HU run giving them their largest lead of the game at 54-35 with nine minutes left in the contest. The Saints’ full court pressure defense coupled with the Foresters’ poor free throw shooting allowed Siena Heights to outscore the Foresters by eight to close out the game.
Donaldson led all scorers with 19 points while Miller added 16 points. Courtney Beerbower chipped in 9 points and collected a game-high 8 rebounds while Lauren Meese scored 9 points and dished out four assists. The Foresters scored 27 points off the Saints’ 22 miscues and controlled the boards with a 45-41 rebounding edge. Siena Heights had three players in double-digits with Erin Cassidy leading the way with 16. Shalaha Hubbard and Tanci Levit tossed in 11 and 10 points respectively.
