The Foresters (8-5) bounced back from an opening round loss in the St. Xavier University Christmas Tournament to defeat Siena Heights University (9-5) 81-67.
The first half was a seesaw affair as the lead was volleyed back and forth ten times. Courtney Beerbower finally gave HU the lead for good with two free throws at the 2:18 mark in the first half. The Foresters then got four consecutive charity tosses from Lauren Davenport followed by a lay-up and a three-pointer from Amy Berry in the final 23 seconds to give HU a 43-35 lead at the break.
Siena Heights scored the first four points of the second half to pull with 43-39, but the Foresters responded with a 12-2 run over the next four minutes to take a 55-41 advantage with 13:21 to go. The Saints made one more run to cut the deficit to seven at 61-54 with 8:44 to play, but HU got two free throws from Berry and a trey from Jenna Donaldson to extend the lead back to 14 with six minutes to play. The Foresters' lead never fell below double digits the rest of the way.
HU’s Berry topped all scorers in the game with 23 points and she added seven rebounds. Lauren Davenport finished with 17 points and Donaldson added 14. Laura Panozzo led the Saints with 14 points. The Foresters won the battle of the boards, 40-31.
