After knocking off the #4-ranked Cougars of Saint Francis earlier in the week, Taylor University (8-3, 2-1) handed another top 25 team a loss by beating the #23 women's basketball
team of Huntington University (7-2, 1-1) 69-63 on Saturday afternoon.
It was the tale of two halves as the Foresters came out flat and could do no right in the first stanza. They found themselves in a 19-3 hole less than seven minutes into the contest as the Trojans could seemingly do no wrong. Taylor shot 53.1 percent (17-for-32) from the field in the first half while limiting the Foresters to nine field goals on 30.0 percent shooting. The Trojans extended the lead to 43-23 by halftime's end.
Taylor owned the first five minutes of the second half as they built their largest lead of the game at 59-32 but the Foresters turned the tides when they challenged the Trojans at their own game, a 2-3 zone. They held Taylor to 19 points over the remaining 15 minutes of the contest to cut the deficit from 27 to six points with just under a minute to play but it would be as close as the Foresters would get as the Trojans went 3-for-4 from the charity stripe to secure the win.
Sarah Miller finished with a game-high 22 points. Kelsey Green tossed in 12 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to record the double double. Lauren Meese added seven points, five rebounds and a game-high five assists. Erika Redweik led a balanced Trojan attack with 18 points. Also scoring in double digits for Taylor was Allison Reece with 15, Tess Rudolph with 12 and Morgan McLeish with 10.
