ALLENTOWN, Pa. - In the first of two Tier 1 holiday tournaments and four days of bowling in Allentown, Pa. over Christmas break, the Forester women’s bowling team finished 9th in the Roto-Grip Keystone-Quaker Classic at the Playdrome Rose Bowl. It marks the third top-ten finish of the season.
After five regular games on a 36' flat sport pattern on Thursday, December 27, HU was sitting in 9th place. They averaged an 850 for five games for a 4,251 first day total. The following day, Huntington maintained their position by averaging 176.7 for 20 Baker games for a 3,535 Baker total and final tournament total of 7,786.
Individually, four HU bowlers finished in the top 50 with Ayla Yeiter averaging a 183.2 to pace her team with a 22nd place finish out of 92 bowlers.
Stephanie Misamore placed 29th with a 179.8 average followed by Casandra Griffith in 37th with a 172.8 average and Eleni Newsome 43rd with a 166.6. Emily O'Leary averaged 146 for five games.
Robert Morris of Illinois won the tournament title with 8,615 pins. Rounding out the top five finishes included the University of Pikeville (2nd), Marian University (3rd), Newman University (4th) and Florida State University (5th).
Pikeville's Ashley Copley won the individual title with an average of 220.6.
There was no rest for the weary as the Foresters were back in action on Saturday and Sunday to compete in the Lehigh Valley Collegiate Classic Tier 1 tournament at AMF Parkway Lanes where they finished 11th with a team total of 7,504.
On Saturday, after five regular team games, HU averaged 821 per game on a tough 40' sport pattern. Consistency seems to be Huntington’s trademark as they headed into Sunday’s completion in 11th place and was able to preserve their spot after Sunday’s 20 Baker games.
Huntington averaged 169.9 per game over the 20 Baker games and climbed as high as 9th before their final 11th place finish.
In individual competition on Saturday, Emily O'Leary finished 14th out of 115 bowlers, the highest individual tournament finish for the Foresters to date. She averaged 183.2 over five games with high games of 227 and 203.
Ayla Yeiter finished 35th averaging 173.2 and Stephanie Misamore carded a 159.2 average good for 47th. Casandra Griffith averaged 172 over four games, Eleni Newsome turned in a 138.6 average for five games and Tiffany Walther bowled a 146 game.
Florida State University won the tournament with a score of 8,278 followed by Robert Morris University of Illinois, Wright State University, Newman University and Marian University.
Florida State's Brittney Shriver averaged a 204.6 to claim the individual title.
The Foresters are back in action on January 19-20 when they compete in the Tier 1 Blue and Gold Classic at Chippewa Lanes in South Bend, Ind.
