GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - It was the HU women’s soccer team’s first loss of the year as the Golden Eagles of Cornerstone University mounted a second half comeback to steal a 2-1 win over the Foresters Saturday afternoon.
Huntington wasted no time finding the back of the net when Lisa Underwood snuck one past a Cornerstone defender into Brittany Hartman who drilled it home for a 1-0 lead four minutes into the contest.
The Foresters remained on attack the rest of the half but the tables turned in the second period as the Golden Eagles came out of halftime with new life. Cornerstone’s Riley Steen deadlocked the score at 1-1 in the 61st minute.
Seven minutes later Steen found Morgan Vance for the game-winner. HU would generate four more shots on goal in the final twenty minutes but couldn’t find net as the Golden Eagles cruised to the win.
HU outshot Cornerstone for the game 17-13 but it was the second half that did the Foresters in. After logging only two shots in the first half, the Golden Eagles became the aggressors, generating 11 shots to the Foresters’ nine in the final 45 minutes.
Megan Soltow went the distance in goal to finish with three saves.
The Foresters (3-1) are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Manchester University for a 4:00 p.m. kick-off.
