Cincinnati, Ohio - After a disappointing outcome on Thursday, the HU women's soccer team bounced back to beat Cincinnati Christian University 2-0 on Saturday.
Despite outplaying the Eagles in the first half, the Foresters came up empty on the scoreboard after 45 minutes of play but the second half proved to be a different story. HU's first goal came after Erin Barclay dribbled a couple of defenders and played the ball into the box where Brittany Hartman ran onto it and slotted it past the keeper in the 50th minute of play.
With less than eight minutes remaining, the Foresters made sure their lead stuck when Hartman beat a defender and crossed the ball where Claire Creasy found the back of the net on a one-touch finish.
The Foresters outshot the Eagles 17-6. HU keeper Sam Barclay was credited with the shutout. She finished with three saves.
"We really needed a win today and we got it," commented Coach Burgher. "After Thursday's letdown we were all looking at this as a must-win. We knew we had a lot to prove to each other."
"In the first half we were playing hard but we weren't playing smart. We were getting chances with 12 shots, but again nothing very dangerous. Second half we continued the workrate but played much smarter. We had five shots and we put two of them away. Overall in the game we only allowed five shots on goal so we were happy with that. We are excited to begin the conference season on Tuesday against Goshen."
Huntington opens up MCC play on Tuesday when they host Goshen College at 4:00 p.m.
