The HU women's soccer
team turned in an outstanding performance to open up MCC play as they cruised past Goshen College 4-1.
HU wasted no time getting on the board and HU keeper Caitlin Adams was the catalyst that made it happen. She was credited with an assist when she blasted a punt that Brittany Hartman chased down and then beat her defender to give Huntington a 1-0 lead at the 4:36 mark. Justine Jost then put HU up 2-0 with a low shot to the near post on an assist from Sam Cubic in the 13th minute of play.
With ten minutes left in the game, Goshen knocked in a loose ball to close within one but Hartman struck again four minutes later with a one-touch shot to give HU some breathing room. Jost then polished off the Maple Leafs with her second goal of the night when she blasted one into the far upper post with just two minutes left in the contest to give HU the convincing 4-1 win.
The Foresters had the upper hand offensively, outshooting Goshen 15-4. Adams held Goshen scoreless and finished with two saves in her 62 minutes in goal while teammate Megan Soltow finished out the game with one save.
Huntington (5-5, 1-0) hosts Grace College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. as part of the Homecoming festivities.
