The Foresters (1-1) rallied for a 3-2 win over the Indiana Tech Warriors to record their first win of the season.
The Warriors took the early lead with a goal at the 16 minute mark, and headed to the break with the 1-0 lead still intact. "I felt we came out a bit sluggish in the first half," remarked Coach Nathan Sharpe. "During halftime we talked about winning 50/50's, possessing the ball, and looking for chances to send our forwards on through balls. When we did those things, it paid off for us."
It was a through ball from senior Ashley Gonterman that got HU the equalizer seven minutes into the second half. Freshman Colleen Knox finished off the assist with a great shot on the near post. The Foresters finished their scoring on two set plays. The first, played in by Gonterman, allowed HU to apply enough pressure that it deflected off a defender's head into the net. Junior Hannah Kaufman took advantage on a direct kick putting the ball over the wall and into the upper part of the near post.
The Foresters then held off a late Tech rally, but not before the Warriors made it interesting with a goal with six minutes left. "I was pleased with the heart and effort at the end of the game," said Sharpe. "The team really gutted it out and they deserved the win."
HU had 13 shots on goal for the game and Tech had 12.
