The Huntington University Soccer program adds another elite player from the west coast to their list of 2010 recruits. Delaney Smith has signed her National Letter of Intent to attend Huntington University this fall. Smith reins from Steilacoom High School in DuPont, Washington.

During her time at Steilacoom High School, Smith was one of the most talented players on the field. As a four-year varsity player, she was named first team all league in 2008 and again in 2009. She also played for one of the top club teams in Washington, Blackhills Football Club. Smith was also a standout track athlete having earned first team all league honors in 2008 and 2009.

"I chose Huntington because I really liked the environment and everyone was so nice. I want to be apart of the rebuilding of the women's soccer team. I also liked that it is a small school so I can get to know everyone, including my professors,” said Smith. “I am extremely excited to meet new people and make new friends. I have lived In Washington my whole life and don’t travel often so it should be a fresh change. I am also excited to play soccer with some good players and an awesome coach so I can expand my skills and knowledge of the game.”

“Having a player like Delaney join our family here at Huntington is a huge step in the right direction for us. She is tall, fast, and very athletic. It’s no secret that we were going after girls who could score and there's no doubt we got one with Delaney,” said HU head coach Ryan Burgher. “I had a great feeling about Delaney as soon as she got to Huntington, she just fit. We got along well, she bonded with the team and I know she is going to embrace the family culture we have at Huntington. This is a great fit for Delaney and for us.”

Delaney is planning to major in psychology. She is the daughter of Carla and Frank Smith.
