Houghton, N.Y. - Hitting the road for the first time this season, the Forester women's soccer team came up empty, dropping a 5-0 decision to Houghton College before losing 5-1 to Roberts Wesleyan College on Saturday.
Against the 18th-ranked Highlanders on Friday, the Foresters had some first game jitters as they gave up a goal within the first three minutes of play and then surrendered two more by the 28:17 mark. Houghton, having already played a pair of games, went on to score two more goals in the second period to claim the commanding 5-0 win.
The Highlanders outshot HU 16-6 and had three corner kicks to the Foresters' none. HU keeper Sam Barclay finished with five saves on the day.
On Saturday, Roberts Wesleyan grabbed an early 1-0 in the eighth minute of play but five minutes later Sam Cubic equalized when she lobbed the ball over the out-stretched hands of the RWC goalie to tie things up at 1-1. Alyssa Krause was credited with the assist.
Minutes later Jackie Corbett found the back of the net for the second time to give the Warriors a permanent lead. They would go on to score three more goals in the final 45 minutes to cruise to the 5-1 victory.
The Warriors had twice as many shots as HU, outkicking the Foresters 13-6. Jillian Stiemke assumed keeper responsibilities and finished with two saves.
Huntington is back in action on Wednesday when they host Bluffton University for a 2:00 p.m. kick-off.
