The Foresters got off to a great start in conference play with a decisive 9-0 sweep over Spring Arbor University.
In doubles play, Stephanie Strong and Raelyn Althoff teamed for the 8-3 win at #1, while #2 Kendra Ganz and Calli Fike and #3 Jessica Deter and Liz Hull picked up 8-4 victories.
HU dominated singles play as well winning five of the six matches in straight sets. At #1 Strong won 6-1, 6-2. Althoff gave up just two games with a 6-2, 6-0 win at #2. At #3 Ganz won a first set tiebreaker 7-3 and then won the second set easily at 6-1. Fike made quick work of her opponent with the 6-1, 6-0 win at #4. At #5 Deter went 6-1, 6-2 and Katie Sprunger got the come-from-behind win 1-6, 7-6, 6-3 at #6.
“I thought we played very well today,” said Coach Turner. “We played with a great deal of intensity and that will really be helpful in future matches that may be under more pressure.”
With the win, the women improve to 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in the MCC.
