HUNTINGTON, Ind.— Creating a diversified community in Huntington has led to the creation of the Harmony Initiative Task Force and the Horizon Leadership Program at Huntington University. On March 9, representatives from each program will present at the university’s Foundation Breakfast.
Launched in 2008, the Horizon Leadership Program is a collaborative effort between Youth for Christ/USA and Huntington University and is designed to attract and retain students of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds by providing educational, leadership and creative outlets. Director Arthur Wilson will talk about the benefits of this program at the breakfast.
Formed in 2007, the Harmony Initiative is an ad hoc group of local business leaders, elected officials, clergy, educators and social-service workers advancing values of the City of Huntington’s mission statement, which declares Huntington to be “a community of civility and inclusion, where diversity is honored and differences are respected.” HU President G. Blair Dowden will present an overview of the initiative. Mike Perkins, director of the Parkview Huntington Foundation, will share his perspectives as a member of the Harmony Initiative Task Force and chair of the planning committee for Harmony Day 2010.
The public is invited to attend. The breakfast will begin at 7:45 a.m. in the Habecker Dining Commons and conclude by 9 a.m. The cost of the breakfast is $6. First-time attendees eat free courtesy of Bailey-Love Mortuary.
