HUNTINGTON, Ind. — The United Way of Huntington County’s 2011 campaign video, created with help from Huntington University students and staff, was awarded the Indiana State Association of United Ways Golden Excellence in Media (GEM) Award. The contest is open to any Indiana United Way. Creative marketing tools are entered and are judged on innovation, accomplishment of purpose, production quality and measurable success. For more than 13 years Dr. Lance Clark, professor of digital media arts
film and communication at Huntington University, has filmed the five-county collaborative United Way video along with the help of his film department students (current and former), including Jim Marbach, Josh Fortney, Josh Wickersham and Dorina Oliveira, as well as two HU staff members, Kelly Lynch and John O’Rourke.
“The 2011 United Way Campaign Video was by far the best quality and most heart-felt we’ve ever done,” Clark said. “We went with a one-take, commercial-like concept that would be quick and easy to show at employee campaign meetings across the region.”
With the United Way of Huntington County as the lead organization, preparations were made for a June 2011 filming on Dean Street in Huntington. Other counties involved with this project, Adams, Allen, Grant, Wells and Whitley Counties, brought additional people and supplies to fill the screen.
The video has been shown to more than 70,000 employees across Northeast Indiana, all of which were challenged to support their local communities by LIVING UNITED in their neighborhoods.
