jterm 2012 recap
Huntington University students set sail around the globe and around campus this January to learn in exciting and new ways. The purpose of the January term, or Jterm, is to encourage creative imagination and independent inquiry. Jterm frees both student and faculty from demands of other courses and programs, providing opportunities for uninterrupted and intensive investigation.
Various trips and classes this year included:
- A trip to India to serve at an all-girls orphanage.
- A trip to the historic Civil Rights sights in the south to travel the pathes of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and other Civil Rights heroes.
- A Piano 4 Hands class which brought together 15 pianists to play piano duos, trios, quartets, and one piece for nine players on one piano.
- A mock trial where students learned and practiced various law proceedings.
- A trip to Romania where social work students worked with various clients.
- An Illustrating for Children's Literature class where students wrote a short story, sketched out ideas, made a storyboard and completed one finished piece.
- A trip to a theatre festival and competition through the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival.
- An Exploring Medical Careers class in which 11 students job-shadowed physicians and nurses in hospital and clinical settings.
- A class where students were the production assistants for a film crew on the movie, "Praying the Hours."
