EXCITING NEWS!!! We will award 10 incoming freshmen or transfer students with THEATRE SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS! These awards can be up to $2,500 per year for a total of $10,000 off your entire four years of tuition costs! The THEATRE SCHOLARSHIP AWARD will be awarded to 10 highly motivated, talented and passionate incoming theatre majors for the 2012-2013 academic year. Whether you are interested in theatre performance or in our design and technical program, you will have the opportunity to cultivate and enhance your skills and talents while we relieve some of the financial burden.
Please mark on your calendar, punch into your phone, or write down on a post-it note that Thursday, February 23rd is the next scheduled date for Huntington University’s Theatre Visit Day. Come visit our campus and meet the faculty and current students. The day’s activities include a full campus tour, observing acting and design classes, a tour of the theatre facilities, and free admission to the production of Medea.

An important event for the day will be auditioning and interviewing for the THEATRE SCHOLARSHIP AWARD. Please look over the information below to help you prepare for the auditions and/or interview. You are not required to audition for the award on Theatre Visit Day. However, we strongly recommend that you audition and interview if you are interested in becoming a theatre major. The awards are competitive as we are searching for the best high school students within our state and across the country.
For those interested in a BA in Theatre Performance, please prepare for your audition:
- Two contemporary contrasting monologues (dramatic and comic preferred) or…
- One contemporary monologue (dramatic or comic) and one song from musical theatre
- The monologue should be between one and two minutes in length
- The song between one and two minutes in length…so just a verse and chorus is fine
- An accompanist will not be provided. So, you may plan on bringing one, using an accompanist tape, or singing a capella
- A letter of recommendation from your drama teacher (or another person who can speak well of your work)
- Fill out an application here.
For those interested in a BA in Theatre Design and Technology, please prepare for your interview:
- Your portfolio if you have one (photos/renderings/drawings from past productions that show examples of your work)
- Your résumé
- A letter of recommendation from your drama teacher (or another person who can speak well of your work)

Please call the Huntington University Admissions Office at 1-800-642-6493 and register for the Theatre Department Visit Day, so we know you plan on attending.
If you are unable to attend the Theatre Visit day, but want to apply for the Theatre Scholarship Award, then please email the application along with a video of your audition or your design portfolio to Professor Duffer at jduffer@huntington.edu on or before February 1st, 2012. If you are attending the theatre visit day, it is preferred that you fill out the application materials prior to the Theatre Scholarship audition/interviews. However, we will accept your application materials on the scheduled visit day (February 23rd). You may hand deliver the application materials to the Theatre Department on that day.
