church relations

Huntington University was founded by the Church of the United Brethren in Christ in 1897. Through many changes over the course of a century - from a single building known as “Central College” to the modern university campus of today- the relationship between the church and college has remained strong.

Church relations does focus on UB churches, but also includes other congregations as well. Huntington University is attended by students from many different denominations plus independent and non-denominational churches. The goal is to build positive relations with all churches who agree with our mission of educating men and women to impact the world for Jesus Christ.

One of the ways a local church can cooperate with the university is through the Church Matching Grant Program. This program enables a local church to contribute toward its student’s education, and the University will match the amount – up to$1,000 for United Brethren Churches and up to $500 for all other churches. The matching funds are applied to the student’s financial aid package. When more than one student is from the church, the amount is divided equally among all the students from that church attending HU. (see Church Matching Grant)

The Church Relations staff will assist churches who would like to have a representative attend their church to present Huntington University.

The special focus with UB churches is maintained with Huntington University involvement at the United Brethren National Conference and visits at pastor cluster meetings.

The Church Relations staff is helping oversee the Prayer Ministry Team and the Prayer Ministry Email. The monthly Prayer Ministry Email is available to anyone who would like to pray for Huntington University. Anyone can email phirschy@huntington.edu and ask to receive the monthly email.
