The National Art Education Association (NAEA) was founded in 1947 and is the leading professional organization for art educators, serving more than 20,000 active members. It is the world’s largest professional art education association and a leader in educational research, policy, and practice for art education.

Members include K-12 art educators, museum educators, college professors, college art education students, art councils and retired educators.  Members are located throughout the 50 states, the District of Columbia, U.S. possessions, most Canadian provinces, U.S. military bases around the world, and 25 foreign countries.

The mission of NAEA is to promote art education through professional development, service, advancement of knowledge, and leadership.

Huntington University has an active Student Chapter of the National Art Education Association with 14 members and a faculty advisor. This group strives to develop further expertise in art teaching practices in a number of ways. Students attend the annual Art Education Association of Indiana State Conference to stay informed on emerging changes in the field as well as collaborate with other student art ed majors and network with art educators in the field.

They increase their knowledge by communicating with area K-12 school art educators as well as those working in museums, galleries, and art therapy. The student chapter also sponsors the annual High School Art Exhibit held on campus in the Robert E. Wilson Gallery

They work with area art students in numerous ways, including teaching individual private lessons, taking groups on tours through the school art department and gallery, and teaching groups at the local Boys & Girls Club. All activities that help build strong résumés  and portfolios.

Huntington University is building a strong professional community of art educators and new leaders in the field of art education through this organization. This group of students is dedicated to advancing and improving art education at all levels.
