3.17.04 - Too
many defensive mistakes cost the Foresters in a tight, extra-inning
game with Missouri Baptist University, giving the Spartans the 7-6
win. HC took a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI
single by Brian Porter, but Missouri Baptist tied it up with a run
in the top of the eighth. Neither team scored in the ninth
sending the game into an extra inning. The Spartans pushed the
game-winning run across in the top of the tenth and held off the
Foresters in their half of the frame. Steve Orth and Porter
led HC at the plate with three hits apiece and two RBI. Levi
Sell (0-1), who took over for Jason Stanley in the sixth, gave up
two unearned runs off three hits and one walk in the loss.
"We played well enough to be close, but we made too many
defensive mistakes to win," said Coach Frame. "Sell
was outstanding in relief of Stanley and we had 12 hits against a
pretty good lefthander." The loss drops the men to 3-5 on
the season. |
