4.15.04 - The Foresters gave a strong Bethel College squad all it could handle, but the Pilots were able to edge HC 3-2 in game one of the doubleheader and 6-5 in game two.  In the opener, both teams scored a run in their first at-bat, but then both pitchers settled down and held the opponents scoreless through the next four innings.  The Pilots finally broke the tie with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.  HC's Brian Porter got one back in the top of the seventh with his solo homerun, but the rally ended there.  Josh Clark (4-2), who according to Coach Frame had "his best start of the year", went the distance for the Foresters in the loss.  He gave up just three runs, one earned, on six hits and no walks while striking out seven against the top hitting team in the conference.  In the nightcap, HC owned a 5-1 lead after two innings of play and HC's hurler, Jason Stanley, seemed to be in command of the game.  But the Pilots, who entered the doubleheader with a 30-5 record, would not go away without a fight.  Bethel's bats that had been held in check for most of the doubleheader came alive in the bottom of the seventh and didn't quit until they scored a game-winning five runs.  Tim Burris (0-2), who came on in relief of Stanley in the seventh, took the loss for the Foresters.  He allowed three runs, two earned, on four hits in two-thirds of an inning.  "It was a tough day, especially losing game two the way we did," said Coach Frame.  "We just did not make enough plays when the game was on the line.  We had several opportunities to break the second game open early, but just did not have good at bats at the right time."  The two losses drop the Foresters to 11-15 on the season and 8-6 in the MCC.
