4.27.04 - Playing in two critical games, the Foresters rose to the challenge and shut out the Goshen College Maple Leafs 3-0 and 1-0 to keep alive their hopes of playing in the NAIA Region VIII tournament.  In game one, HC used a throwing error by the Maple Leaf catcher, a RBI single by Marc Roth and a sacrifice fly by Brian Porter to score their three runs in the bottom of the fifth.  Josh Clark moved to 5-3 on the season with the complete game shutout.  He held the Goshen batters in check allowing just three hits with two walks and four strikeouts in seven innings of work.  In game two, nine innings were needed to determine the winner of the pitchers' dual.  The Foresters, down to their final out in the bottom of the ninth, came up with three consecutive singles by Joel Kennedy, Levi Sell, and Andy Janzen to score the game-winner.  Kennedy (6-3) pitched all nine innings for HC for his second straight shutout.  He gave up nine hits with two walks and four strikeouts.  "We were really in a must win situation if we want to get into the regional where only the top three teams from the conference go," said Coach Frame.  "We obviously got two great pitching performances.  We still have our work cut out in our last six conference games, but these were very big wins.  Our kids did a great job."  The Foresters move to 15-20 on the season and 11-11 in the MCC with the two wins.
