- The Mid-Central Conference (MCC) has announced its awards for the
2003-04 baseball season with four Foresters, one from each class,
receiving All-Conference honors. Senior catcher Greg Slee
committed just two errors during the regular season and threw out
60% (12 of 20) of the runners attempting to steal a base. Slee
currently has a .989 fielding percentage and is HC's third leading
hitter with his .377 batting average and 20 RBI. Junior
outfielder Brian Porter, who is among the conference leaders in
several offensive categories, leads the team in slugging percentage
(.710), on-base percentage (.500), and homeruns (10). Porter
also is the Foresters' second-leading hitter with a .438 average and
has the second-highest RBI total of 39. Sophomore Joel Kennedy
was one of four pitchers to make the All-Conference team. He
had a team-high seven wins against three losses in his ten starts
during the regular season, and recorded a team-leading six complete
games, including three shutouts. His 3.71 ERA is second
best on the team and he is hitting .314 at the plate. Freshman
Josh Clark joined Kennedy among the pitchers being honored.
Clark went 6-3 during the regular season with four complete games
and has a team-best 3.49 ERA and 34 strike outs. Joining the
Foresters on the First Team were MCC Player of the Year Marcel
Guevara (Bethel College, 1st base), AD Mendoza (Indiana Wesleyan
University, 2nd base), Javier Jiminez (Bethel College,
shortstop), Tom Gifford (Bethel College, 3rd base), Dave Scott
(Marian College, catcher), Josh Keister (Goshen College, utility
infielder), Kerry Yoder (Marian College, designated hitter),
pitchers Justin Masterson (Bethel College), Elisha Marshall
(Bethel College), and Aaron Gearhart (Indiana Wesleyan University,
relief pitcher), and outfielders Javier Guevara (Bethel College),
Erik Hisner (Goshen College), and Keith Waller (Marian College).
Marian College's Kurt Guldner received Conference Coach of the Year
honors. |
