The Foresters
picked up three wins against five losses on their trip south over
spring break.
On their first stop
in Henderson,
Tennessee,
HC picked up a 2-1 win over Missouri Baptist behind a strong
performance on the mound from Ryan Finn (1-0). In their second game
of the day, the Foresters fell 7-4 to Freed Hardeman. Lack of
execution in a few situations as well as too many bases given up on
wild pitches and stolen bases led to HC's demise.
The Foresters then
traveled on to
Daytona Beach,
Florida
for the remainder of the week. On Monday, HC again spilt a pair of
games. In the opener they fell 6-2 to Olivet Nazarene despite
out-hitting the Tigers 10-7. In the nightcap, HC bounced back with a
10-5 win over West Virginia Wesleyan. Jason Rahn led HC with two hits
and three RBI in the game, and Levi Sell (1-0) picked up the win with
his six innings of work. On Tuesday, the Foresters faced NAIA
3rd-ranked Embry-Riddle and fell 14-0. The Eagles allowed HC just two
hits in the shutout.
Following a day
off, the Foresters had a rematch with Olivet Nazarene, but got similar
results. HC committed four errors in the 6-1 loss. The Foresters
then gave 22nd-ranked Rio Grande all they could handle. They banged
out 17 hits to just nine for the Redmen and led 4-1 after four
innings, but too many mistakes in the field and at the plate proved
costly in the 10-7 loss. In their final game, Sell's solid showing on
the mound led to the 3-1 victory over Capital. Sell, who picked up
his second win of the week, shut out the Crusaders for six innings and
allowed just one run in the top of the seventh before Jeremy Rodibaugh
came on in relief to pick up the save. The Foresters are now 4-11 on
the season.
