- Rusty after a week layoff, the Foresters dropped game one 6-5
to Taylor University, but rebounded with a 16-6 rout in the nightcap.
In the opener, HC got on the board
first with a run in the bottom of the second. Taylor came up
with four runs in the top of the fifth, but the Foresters responded
with three in their half of the fifth to knot the score at 4-4.
The teams traded runs in the sixth, but HC ran out of answers as the
Trojans pushed one more across in the top of the seventh and then held
the Foresters scoreless in their final at-bat. Jeremy Rodibaugh
(1-3), who came on in relief in the seventh, took the loss for HC.
In game two, the Foresters put on a
hitting clinic knocking out 16 hits and scoring at least one run in
every inning. Taylor threatened early taking a 3-1 lead after
two at-bats, but HC took control of the game with back-to-back
four-run innings in the second and third. After the teams
swapped three-runs over the next two innings, the Foresters put
together their third four-run inning of the game.
Zach Crooks got a leadoff
single to start the sixth, and Thad Frame, Andy Janzen, and Tim Burris
each followed suit to produce the first two runs. Jason Rahn
walked to re-load the bases and Rodibaugh was hit by a pitch to score
the third run. Austan Kas put on the finishing touches with a
single to score Burris and end the game by the 10-run rule.
Ryan Roth (2-1) went the
distance for the Foresters to pick up his second win on the year.
Frame had an impressive performance at the plate for HC with seven
hits, including two doubles, and four RBI in the two games.
Brian Porter added three hits and six RBI on the day.
The split gives the Foresters a 15-19
record overall and a 10-8 record in MCC play. |
