- The green and the gray
Forester squads took the field and the first pitch was thrown at 11:00
a.m. Two hundred sixty-eight hits, one hundred thirty-one runs and
approximately seven hours later, the final out was recorded, bringing
Huntington's 100 inning game to an end.
The game was tight throughout as both
teams steadily put runs on the board. The outcome was still in
doubt as the gray team came to the plate in the bottom of the 99th
inning. It was sophomore transfer, Keith Benbow that delivered
the deciding blow, a two-run blast that gave the gray team a 66-65
lead. The green squad didn't have an answer in the top of the
100th giving the gray team the hard-fought win.
The green team out-hit the grays
139-129 and committed 15 errors to 26 by the grays, but it was the
gray team that came up with more timely hits to get the
come-from-behind victory.
The game was played as a fundraiser for
the program’s spring break trip. The event
brought in $3400 for the team.
"It was a great day," said Coach Mike
Frame. "The
game was extremely competitive and very well played in spite of some
serious fatigue. It was exciting that the game was so close and after
99 innings, come down to one swing of the bat. It was also good to see
that our kids can be very, very competitive yet understand that they
are still one team. This group has a special chemistry."
