- In their first home doubleheader of the season, the Foresters
(8-8) ran away with a 10-2 victory over St. Xavier University in game
one, but they couldn't nail down the sweep dropping game two 4-3.
A run in the top of the third gave St. Xavier a 2-1 lead, but the
Foresters put together a two-out five-run rally to take a commanding
6-2 lead in their half of the inning. With two down and runners
on second and third, Korey Grow singled to center to score Austan Kas
and Thad Frame. Levi Sell and Adam Farris combined back-to-back
singles to push Grow across. Sell and Farris moved to second and
third on a wild pitch and then Blake Hindsley singled to right to
drive in Sell. Adam Culy then came up with an infield hit to
score Farris for their fifth run of the inning. After a Keith
Benbow walk, St. Xavier finally got Kas to fly out to left to stop the
bleeding.
Josh Clark set the Cougars down in
order in the fourth and then HU blew the game open with four more runs
on four hits and four St. Xavier errors. Michael Dalton came on
in relief of Clark in the fifth and threw three perfect innings to
close out the win for the Foresters.
Grow scored two runs for HU and had two
hits and a team-high three RBI in the game. Farris went 2-3 at
the plate and added two RBI. Clark (2-3) recorded the win for
the Foresters allowing two runs on five hits with three strikeouts and
a walk in four innings of work. Dalton picked up the save.
In the second game, the Foresters got a
run in each of their first three at-bats to take a 3-1 lead. St.
Xavier plated two in the sixth to tie it and then combined a double, a
single and a squeeze bunt to score the game-winner in the top of the
eighth. The Foresters tried to answer in their at-bat and Frame
got things off to a good start with an infield hit. Andy Janzen
moved him to second on a fielder's choice, but Frame got no further.
Janzen led the Foresters at the plate
with two hits and two RBI. Kas went 2-3 including a double and
scored two runs for HU. Ryan Roth (1-3), who came on in relief
of Drew Taylor, took the loss for HU. He gave up three runs on
four hits and struck out two over the final three innings of play. |
