- Solid starting pitching and 28 hits on the day lifted the
Foresters to an impressive sweep of Anderson University. HU
(11-8) won game one 11-6 and then shut out the Ravens 9-0 in game two.
Sophomore Korey Grow paced the hot-hitting Foresters driving in six
runs on six hits, including two doubles, two triples and a homerun
over the two games.
In the opener, HU was
clinging to a 5-4 lead through seven innings of play, but with two
outs in the top of the eighth, the Foresters exploded for six runs to
blow the game open. HU had five hits in the inning including
back-to-back homeruns by Grow and Blake Hindsley.
Levi Sell and Adam Culy each drove in a run singles in the inning.
Anderson got two back
in the bottom of the ninth, but the rally ended there.
Culy joined Grow with three hits in
the game and Hindsley, Austan Kas, Andy Janzen, and Jason Rahn each
added two hits. Michael Dalton went seven innings in the win.
He gave up four runs on six hits and he struck out four.
In the nightcap, HU's Grow doubled in
Janzen to score the first run of the contest in the top of the fourth.
In the fifth, the Foresters again put together a two-out rally, this
time coming up with four runs to take command of the game. The
big blow in the inning was a two-run triple again by Grow. HU
plated four more in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
Ryan Roth went the distance in the
win for HU. He scattered four hits over seven innings to shut
out the Ravens and he struck out six while allowing just one free
pass.
"I thought we rebounded well after
not playing very well at Hanover on Tuesday," said Coach Frame.
"We got great starting pitching from Michael and Ryan, we had 28 hits
on the day and we were solid defensively. Anderson is a program
with a tradition of excellence and we feel fortunate to come
away with some success." |
