- In their conference opener, the Foresters were swept by the
Goshen College Maple Leafs losing 2-1 and 5-4 in the doubleheader.
In game one, HU (11-10, 0-2)
manufactured a run in the top of the first on a walk to Austan Kas, a
sacrifice bunt from Thad Frame and a RBI single by Andy Janzen, but
that was all the scoring they would do as Goshen pitcher, Ben Taylor,
held the Foresters to just one other hit in the game. The Leafs
got three of their five hits in the bottom of the fourth to plate
their two runs, and then Taylor quieted HU's bats the rest of the way
to seal the win. Josh Clark went the distance in the loss for
the Foresters. He allowed two runs on five hits while striking
out three and walking one.
In game two, HU again took the early
lead with two in the first and one in the third. Goshen got on
the board with two in the fifth, but HU made it 4-2 with a run in
their next at-bat. The Leafs then tied it at 4-4 with two more
in the bottom of the sixth. Neither team scored in the seventh
forcing the game into extra innings. Goshen finally got the
game-winner in the bottom of the ninth on two singles a sacrifice bunt
and a sac fly.
HU out-hit the Leafs 12-9.
Blake Hindsley went 2-2 and drove in two runs to lead the Foresters at
the plate. Korey Grow took the loss for HU. He gave up a
run on four hits and three walks in three and a third innings of work. |
