- HU's Josh Clark pitched a three-hit shutout and got plenty of
run support for the 9-0 win in the opener against Spring Arbor
University. Unfortunately, Drew Taylor, who gave up just four hits in
the nightcap, didn't get the same support and dropped a 2-1 decision
to the Cougars.
In game one, the Foresters (19-18, 8-10) got all the runs they would
need with two in the first inning. They added two more in the
third and fourth and then sealed the win with three in the fifth.
HU's one and two hitters accounted for much of HU's offense in the
game. Leadoff hitter Austan Kas went 3-3 and scored four runs
and Thad Frame was 2-3 at the plate and scored three times.
Clark went the distance in the win,
allowing three hits and two walks while striking out three.
Game two was a pitcher's dual with a
total of just six hits given up in the game. Korey Grow tripled
to lead off the Foresters' second inning and Levi Sell's sacrifice fly
drove him in to give HU a 1-0 lead. The Cougars answered back
with a run in the top of the third. A Zach Crooks single in the bottom
of the third would be the Foresters' only other hit of the game.
Spring Arbor got the game-winner in
the top of the fifth without getting a hit. Lucas Rider was hit
by a pitch to start the inning. He moved to second on a
sacrifice bunt and went to third on a ground ball to first. He
then scored on Frame's wild throw to first.
Taylor allowed two runs, one earned,
on four hits and a walk while striking out six in the loss for HU.
