Huntington University has announced that
Huntington North High School graduate Jarod Hammel has made a
commitment to attend HU and play baseball this fall. During his senior
year in high school, Hammel led the Vikings in hitting at .416. The
third baseman also led his team in hits (42), RBI (32) and doubles
(9). For the 2006 season, Hammel was named all North Central
Conference, All District, and Academic All State.
“Jared is going to be a great addition to
our baseball program,” said head baseball coach Mike Frame. “He truly
had an outstanding senior season, especially offensively. As a result
of his strong work ethic, he has developed into a very fine player. He
swings the bat very well and we think he will develop into a solid
third baseman. He is an outstanding student and will make a big impact
at Huntington University.”
Huntington University is a member of the Mid-Central Conference (MCC)
and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). On
the baseball field, HU has captured the MCC regular season championship
or conference tournament championship 26 times in 46 years. The
Foresters have also had eight former players go on to careers in
professional baseball, including Heath Luther with the Anaheim Angels
in 2001 and Greg Slee with the Seattle Mariners in 2004.
